A busy two days for NPA at BPPF 2026

20th May 2026 / By Alistair Driver

The NPA had a busy and productive time at last week’s British Pig and Poultry Fair.

There were lots of visitors to the stand throughout, who had the opportunity to meet our new chair, Jo Churchill, for the first time.

We were also pleased to host the Agricultural Supply Chain Adjudicator (ASCA), Richard Thompson, who met producers and discussed pig contracts ahead of the August 13 deadline for compliance with the Fair Dealing Obligations (Pigs) regulations. He is keen to hear from any producers who have concerns, including anonymously, if preferred.

At the end of the first day, we hosted a reception for members and supporters, at which Hugh Crabtree (above) highlighted the recently-published Pork Environmental Roadmap and urged producers to engage with it.

Lizzie participated in the Pig Outlook forums, alongside Pilgrim’s Europe’s operations director agriculture Fabio Brancher and Ellie Wotherspoon, McDonald’s agriculture and sustainable sourcing manager.

She gave her views on the difficult market situation, including moves by major pork processors to reduce current pig supplies, and other hot industry topics. You can read more here.

Katie chaired a forum discussion on the vital topic of preparing for and preventing African swine fever.

Katie said: “It was great from our perspective to see many of our members on the NPA stand, and while the tone wasn’t always buoyant, it can be hugely beneficial to get off farm and speak to others who are in a similar situation.

“Thank you to all those who came to see us and to those who attended the forum discussions.”
