About NPA

What does the National Pig Association do?

The National Pig Association - setting the agenda on key policy issues for the British pig sector. The National Pig Association is the representative trade association for British commercial pig producers. We lobby on behalf of our British pig farmer members throughout Government and the supply chain.

Our activities include:

  • Lobbying the UK Government and its agencies
  • Engaging with parliamentarians and staff across Westminster
  • Regular discussions with retailers and processors fighting for a fair price and commitment to British pork
  • Responding to consultations and official inquiries as the representative voice of the sector
  • Representing pig farmers to a wide variety of interest groups and external stakeholders
  • Collaborating with other organisations and farming groups across the United Kingdom and Europe to amplify our message
  • Producing guidance and briefings on pig sector issues for food business operators, policy makers and parliamentarians
  • Providing position statements on sensitive issues for the media, influencers and decision makers
  • Championing the British pig industry and correcting misinformation in the media and elsewhere.
  • Targeted campaigns to promote British pork

How does the National Pig Association function?

The NPA is the single voice of the British pig sector. No other organisation is able to lobby on behalf of commercial pig producers to Government, the supply chain and wider industry.

The NPA is a small but perfectly formed organisation which relies on membership subscriptions, with limited resources.

Operating costs are kept as low as possible in order to direct all funds to our lobbying activities. We fight on behalf of the pig sector as a whole but also provide bespoke one-to-one advice and support on a variety of issues for our pig farmer members.

NPA represents the majority of the British sow herd including all the largest pig farming businesses, as well as many allied sector members whom, although we don’t directly represent their businesses, pay a subscription to support their pig farmer customers.

We are governed by a committee of both elected farmer and allied industry members which means we are wholly representative of the entire sector and can lobby with a united and authoritative voice.
