An opportunity to chair the National Pig Association
3rd Oct 2025 / By Lizzie Wilson
Due to our existing chair, Rob Mutimer, stepping down next year, following an extended term of office, an exciting opportunity has arisen to Chair the National Pig Association and help lead the team in shaping the future of the UK pig industry at this critical time.
We are looking for a passionate and experienced individual able to represent British pig producers in Westminster and with stakeholders including processors, foodservice, retailers, and to the media, as well as working closely with the NFU and engaging with other industry organisations.
The role will put the successful candidate at the heart of fast-moving representational politics at a time of unprecedented change for this iconic sector, and responsible for a small but highly motivated team known across the livestock industry for its ability to punch above its weight and to go ‘above and beyond’ in support of its members.
You will be accountable for guiding the NPA Board and Pig Industry Group (PIG) as well as working with the Chief Executive as appropriate on a daily basis. You will also have a good reputation for effective communication and will be the primary contact involved in liaising with NFU office holders and updating their various groups on current NPA policy.
It will be a challenging but highly rewarding position, and an opportunity to really make your mark in communicating the role of the UK pig industry throughout government, the wider agricultural sector and beyond.
Knowledge of the UK pig industry is preferred and, as it is a part-time role, the ability to commit to at least 3 days/week on average is crucial (although the weekly hours required will vary). Experience of policy and lobbying is not essential, however. Above all, we are looking for a dynamic and authoritative individual, with strong communication skills and an ability to lead in challenging circumstances.
The salary will be competitive and dependent upon experience.
To apply, please email your CV and covering letter explaining why you would be suitable for the role to: Andrea Tranter, National Pig Association, Agriculture House, Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire CV8 2TZ. Email: andrea.tranter@npanet.org.uk
The National Pig Association is the representative trade association for British commercial pig producers. It is affiliated to the National Farmers Union (NFU) and represents the interests of NFU members that produce pigs and the pig industry interests of its Allied Industry members.
