NPA outlines priorities for government trade strategy

20th Jan 2025 / By Alistair Driver

The NPA has reiterated the need for future trade deals to ensure there is an equivalence in food production standards, in response to the government’s call for input into its trade strategy.

"If goods fail to meet the minimum standards demanded by domestic producers, then those products should not be granted access to the UK market,” the NPA response states.

The NPA document also highlights the need for the government to improve the UK’s border controls to protect the industry from notifiable disease threats such as foot-and-mouth disease and African swine fever.
