2nd Jun 2026 / By Alistair Driver

Richard Thompson, the Agricultural Supply Chain Adjudicator (ASCA) and his office, are planning be in attendance at various agricultural events across the country over the summer.

The role of Mr Thompson, who spoke to producers on the NPA stand at May’s British Pig & Poultry Fair, takes on greater significance for pig farmers this year as the Fair Dealing Obligation (Pigs) regulations come fully into force on August 13.

FDOP25 became law in August 2025, requiring all new pig purchase contracts from that date onward to be in writing, signed, and to include clearly defined terms on pricing, duration, volumes, termination and dispute resolution. A one-year transition period meant that all contracts, regardless of when they were signed, must be compliant by August 13, 2026.

He is keen to hear from any producers who have concerns, including anonymously, if preferred. You can find out more information about the role of the ASCA and how to contact him here.

He is also keen to meet farmers face to face over the summer at the following shows:

  • Royal Three Counties Show, June 12-14
  • Royal Highland Show, June 18–21
  • Royal Norfolk Show, June 24–25
  • Great Yorkshire Show, July 14–17
  • Royal Welsh Show, July 20 – 23
  • Westmorland County Show, September 9-10
  • Agriscot, November 18
  • Royal Ulster Winter Fair, December 10.
